Editorial Policy
How we write, review, update and correct what we publish — and how we keep advertising separate from editorial content.
This policy describes the standards Pairly holds itself to. It is written to be specific enough that you can hold us to it, and so that you know what to expect before you act on anything you read here.
Our purpose
Pairly publishes practical information about dating and relationships. The test we apply to every article is simple: would a reasonable adult finish this with something they could actually use? Content that only exists to occupy a search result does not pass that test and does not get published.
Content standards
Accuracy
We publish claims we believe to be accurate at the time of writing.
- We do not invent statistics. If we cannot identify a real source for a number, the number does not appear. We will not manufacture a figure to make a point land harder.
- We do not invent research. No fabricated studies, no vaguely-attributed “research shows”, no misrepresented findings.
- We do not invent people. No fabricated experts, no invented credentials, no made-up testimonials, no fictional success stories presented as real, and no quotes attributed to anyone who did not say them.
- We distinguish observation from evidence. Where an article describes a common pattern rather than a documented finding, it is written as a general observation and not dressed up as science.
Originality
Everything published on Pairly is written for Pairly. We do not republish other sites’ articles, spin existing content into near-duplicates, or pass off someone else’s work as our own. Where we refer to another publication’s reporting, we say so and link to it.
Responsible use of sources
Where an article draws on an external source, we link directly to it so you can check it yourself rather than take our summary on trust. We link to primary sources where they exist. We do not link to a source we have not actually read, and we do not cite a source that does not support the claim being made.
Clarity about what this is
Pairly is an information publication, not a licensed service. Our content is general information, not personalised advice, and it is not a substitute for therapy, counselling, medical care or legal advice. Where a topic touches on something genuinely serious — abuse, coercion, personal safety, mental health — we say so plainly and point toward appropriate professional resources rather than trying to handle it ourselves.
Quizzes
Our quizzes are interactive editorial content designed for entertainment and self-reflection. They are not psychological instruments, they are not validated, and they do not diagnose anything. Every quiz carries this notice before you start and again with your result.
Quiz answers are processed in your browser. We do not require an email address to show you a result, and we do not sell or share individual quiz responses.
Review and updates
Dating advice ages. Apps change their features, norms shift, and guidance that was sensible three years ago can read strangely today.
- Articles carry a published date, and an updated date once they have been materially revised.
- We review guides periodically, prioritising those covering things that change fastest — dating app features and platform behaviour in particular.
- When we update an article we revise the content itself rather than just changing the date. We do not refresh timestamps to appear current.
Corrections
We will get things wrong. When we do:
- Tell us. Use the contact form and choose Content feedback, or email us directly. Point to the article and what you believe is incorrect.
- We check it. We verify the claim against sources before changing anything.
- We fix it. Factual errors are corrected promptly.
- We are transparent about it. Where a correction materially changes the meaning or the advice given, we note the correction on the article rather than quietly editing it. Fixing a typo does not warrant a note; changing a recommendation does.
Advertising and editorial independence
Pairly is funded by advertising. That relationship is governed by a firm separation:
- Advertisements are clearly labelled. Every ad unit is marked Advertisement and visually separated from editorial content. We do not disguise ads as articles, navigation, buttons, notifications or system messages.
- Advertisers have no editorial input. No advertiser reviews, approves, commissions or influences our articles, and no advertiser can have coverage removed.
- We do not write about advertisers on their behalf. If we ever publish sponsored or paid content, it will be labelled as such at the top of the page, unambiguously. We have no sponsored content at present.
- We never ask you to click ads. No prompts, no arrows pointing at ad units, no incentives, and no design intended to produce accidental clicks.
Any affiliate or commercial arrangement that could reasonably affect how you read an article will be disclosed within that article.
Naming products and services
We refer to dating apps and other products by name where it is useful to do so. When we do:
- We describe features factually, as they were at the time of writing.
- We do not fabricate reviews, ratings, user numbers or performance claims.
- We do not claim any partnership, affiliation or endorsement that does not exist.
Pairly is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any dating app or service mentioned on this site. All product names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
Use of AI tools
We use software tools, including AI-assisted drafting and editing tools, as part of producing this site. Regardless of the tools involved, every article is reviewed before publication against the standards on this page, and responsibility for what is published rests with Pairly. We do not publish unreviewed machine output, and the prohibitions above — no invented statistics, sources, experts or quotes — apply in full to anything drafted with AI assistance.
Images
We use images we are licensed to use. Image sources are recorded, and our Copyright page explains how to raise a concern about any image or text on the site.
